Best Album Covers: 2010 Edition

I'm finishing up my post on my favorite albums of the year, but in the meantime, here's my favorite album COVERS of the year. Which, by the way, is a very underrated aspect when determining a CD's overall greatness. Even in digital format, an album needs a great cover (especially since it's just boring to have that blank spot on my ipod or that lame "drag artwork here" box).

I broke the covers into three categories. The categories are named after Beatles albums because, well, that just seemed like the right thing to do. The White Album division for "simplicity in its awesomeness," Abbey Road division for "being awesome" and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band division for "being awesome...and the best."

"White Album" division
Weezer - "Hurley"
Great cover, would have been better with a Drive Shaft cover song or Smoke Monster related love ballad...

Vampire Weekend - "Contra"
Nevermind the lawsuit over the rights to this picture, this girl looks like Kristen Bell which makes this a definite winner.

Black Keys - "Brothers"
Straightforward, simple and kick-ass. Love it.

Harlem - "Hippies"
Looking at the cover, I could tell this would be a fun CD. It is.

"Abbey Road" Division
Best Coast - "Crazy For You"
This just makes me smile. Plus, anytime you can throw a kitten into the mix, it's a winner.

Klaxons - "Surfing the Void"
You bet your ass there's another cat one on this list. A cat wearing a monocle would obviously make the greatest album cover ever, we're not there yet, but we're making some great progress.

The National - "High Violet"
I don't know how to explain it, but this is just very pleasing to the left side of my brain. ROY G. BIV would be proud.

Wavves - "King of the Beach"
If you're looking at this and wondering if there's a song called "Post Acid" on here, well, there definitely is. And hey, speaking of acid...

"Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band" division
MGMT - "Congratulations
Yes. This is the best.

Welcome to The Fishtank

Hi.
You may be wondering why I named this blog "The Fishtank." It's actually a pretty good story, I'll tell you some other time.
